Emaki guide

How to make an SOP in Chrome

Emaki turns a tab recording into a standard operating procedure. Do the task once while Emaki records the tab, press Make a guide, and every click becomes a numbered step with a screenshot. Say what the SOP is for, write each step, blur private details and export a PDF, free up to 10 steps. With Emaki Pro ($10/month or $100/year), export longer SOPs, save Markdown for a wiki, and share a link that can stay up until you delete it.

An SOP is only useful while it matches the screen. When part of the process changes, record that part again and add or replace just those steps instead of starting over.

Step by step

Make an SOP in Chrome

  1. Open the side panel

Add Emaki from the Chrome Web Store, then click its icon in the toolbar to open the side panel.

  2. Do the task once while recording

In the side panel, choose Record, pick the tab and go through the process the way it should be done. Press Stop at the end.

  3. Make a guide and say what it's for

Press Make a guide under the recording. Give the guide a title and fill in What is this guide for?, so readers know when to use it.

  4. Write and check each step

Give every step a short instruction and, where it helps, a note. Delete detours, reorder steps and blur names, emails and numbers.

  5. Hand it out

Export a PDF, free up to 10 steps. With Emaki Pro, save Markdown with the images for your wiki or knowledge base, or share a link for 1, 7 or 30 days or until you delete it.

  • When the process changes, open the guide, choose Add steps from a recording, and insert the new steps or replace the old ones. Each step shows when it was captured, so you can see which parts are oldest.
  • With Emaki Pro, earlier versions of the guide are kept, so you can go back to one.
  • Guides come from tab recordings made with the extension: Emaki notes where you click in the tab you record, not in a window, your whole screen or a desktop app. It never records what you type or what the page says.
FAQ

Questions and answers

Is there a free SOP maker for Chrome?

Emaki makes, edits and saves SOPs for free, and exports a PDF of up to 10 steps with no watermark. Emaki Pro, $10/month or $100/year, adds PDFs of any length, Markdown export, share links and version history.

Can several people edit the same SOP?

No. A guide is saved in the browser where you make it. To hand an SOP to others, export it as a PDF, or with Emaki Pro as Markdown or a share link.

How do I keep an SOP up to date?

Record only the part that changed, open the guide and choose Add steps from a recording. Insert the new steps where they belong, or replace the old ones. With Emaki Pro, press Update link and the link people already have shows the new version.

Can AI write the SOP steps?

With Emaki Pro + AI ($20/month or $200/year), press Draft step text and every step gets a short instruction written from its screenshot. It's written on this computer when Chrome supports it; otherwise the step images go to Google's Gemini API, and the whole guide counts as one of your 100 AI uses a month. Check the text before you share the guide: AI can get a step wrong.
