How to screenshot a whole WhatsApp Web chat
Use Emaki, a free Chrome extension, and capture the message list instead of the window. Choose Scrolling area, click the chat and press Capture the whole area. It scrolls the chat from top to bottom and stitches it into one tall image.
WhatsApp Web's messages scroll inside the page, not the window. That's why ordinary full page screenshot tools only capture what's on screen.

Open the chat
Add Emaki from the Chrome Web Store, then open the chat in WhatsApp Web in Chrome.
Load the messages you want
WhatsApp Web loads older messages as you scroll up. Scroll up until the first message you want is on screen.
Pick the message list
Click the Emaki icon in the toolbar to open the side panel. Choose Scrolling area, then click anywhere in the messages. The side panel shows a preview of what you picked.
Press Capture the whole area
Emaki scrolls the chat from top to bottom and stitches every shot into one image.
Save or edit it
Click Download to save the capture as a PNG, or Edit to save it as a JPG or PDF. With Emaki Pro, the editor also crops it, adds arrows, boxes or text, or blurs private details first.
- Free captures are up to 150 shots long. Emaki Pro goes up to 1000, for very long chats.
- Chrome lets extensions take about two screenshots per second, so a long chat takes a little time.
Questions and answers
Why does a normal full page screenshot only show part of the chat?
Because the chat scrolls inside the page. The window doesn't scroll, so a tool that scrolls the window captures one screen. Scrolling area tells Emaki to scroll the message list instead.
Can I hide names and phone numbers before I share it?
Yes, with Emaki Pro ($10/month or $100/year). The editor's blur tool hides names, emails and numbers. The free plan saves the capture as a PNG, JPG or PDF, without editing.
Does Emaki upload my chat?
No. Screenshots and page content are processed on your computer and never uploaded. The only exceptions are ones you choose: an AI edit on Pro + AI sends just the image or area you're editing to Google's Gemini API, and a Pro share link uploads that one capture until the link expires.
