Emaki guide

How to screenshot a long Slack conversation

Open Slack in Chrome and use Emaki, a free Chrome extension. Choose Scrolling area, click the messages and press Capture the whole area. It scrolls the conversation and stitches it into one tall image. To capture a thread, click inside the thread instead.

Slack's messages scroll inside the page, not the window, so ordinary full page screenshot tools only capture what's on screen.

Step by step

Screenshot a long Slack conversation or thread

  1. Open Slack in Chrome

Add Emaki from the Chrome Web Store, then open your Slack workspace in Chrome and go to the channel, message or thread.

  2. Load the messages you want

Slack loads older messages as you scroll up. Scroll up until the first message you want is on screen.

  3. Pick the message list

Click the Emaki icon in the toolbar to open the side panel. Choose Scrolling area, then click anywhere in the messages, or in the thread.

  4. Press Capture the whole area

Emaki scrolls the messages from top to bottom and stitches every shot into one image.

  5. Save or edit it

Click Download to save the capture as a PNG, or Edit to save it as a JPG or PDF. With Emaki Pro, the editor also crops it, adds arrows, boxes or text, or blurs private details first.

  • Free captures are up to 150 shots long. Emaki Pro goes up to 1000.
  • Emaki Pro adds blur, a highlighter and numbered steps, for screenshots you share at work.
FAQ

Questions and answers

Can I capture the Slack desktop app?

No. Emaki is a Chrome extension, so it captures Slack in Chrome. Open your workspace in the browser to capture it.

Can I capture just a thread?

Yes. Open the thread, choose Scrolling area and click inside the thread instead of the channel. Only that list is captured.

Can I hide names before I share it?

Yes, with Emaki Pro ($10/month or $100/year). The editor's blur tool hides names, emails and numbers. The free plan saves the capture as a PNG, JPG or PDF, without editing.
