A Tango alternative with free PDF export
Emaki turns a recording of a Chrome tab into a step-by-step guide, with a screenshot for every click. On the free plan there's no limit on how many guides you make, blur is included, and each guide exports as a PDF of up to 10 steps. Guides are saved in your browser. Emaki Pro, $10/month or $100/year, adds PDFs of any length, Markdown export, version history and share links of up to 100 steps.

What Emaki does differently
No cap on free guides
Make as many guides as you like on the free plan, blur what's private and export each one as a PDF of up to 10 steps, with no watermark.
Kept in your browser
Guides and their screenshots are saved in your browser, not in an online library. They're only uploaded when you share one as a link, and the click note behind the steps never includes page text or what you type.
Edit after the fact
Pick another frame for any step, reorder or delete steps, and add steps from a new recording or replace old ones when a screen changes.
Links that end when you want
With Emaki Pro, a guide link stops working after 1, 7 or 30 days, or stays up until you delete it. Update link shows your latest version at the same address.
When Tango may suit you better
- Your team shares one library of workflows, with comments, reactions and viewer insights.
- You document desktop apps as well as the browser.
- You want on-screen guidance that walks people through a process inside the app.
- You need HTML export, video embeds or your own branding on guides.
Questions and answers
Is Emaki a free Tango alternative?
Making, editing and saving step-by-step guides is free, and so is a PDF of up to 10 steps with no watermark. There's no limit on how many guides you make. Emaki Pro, $10/month or $100/year for one person, adds PDFs of any length, Markdown export, version history and share links of up to 100 steps. Pro + AI, $20/month or $200/year, also writes the step text.
Does Emaki upload my guides?
No. Guides and their screenshots are saved in your browser on emaki.appzlr.com. A guide is only uploaded if you share it as a link with Emaki Pro, or if Pro + AI step text is written by Google's Gemini API because Chrome can't write it on your computer.
Can Emaki make guides of desktop apps?
No. Emaki makes guides from a Chrome tab recorded with the extension. Steps in a desktop app, another window or your whole screen aren't captured.
Can I use Emaki and Tango together?
Yes. They don't interfere with each other. Each one opens from its own toolbar icon.
